My 3 min PhD thesis logo“My three-minute PhD thesis” is a research communication competition open to all PhD Candidates of the nine participating universities of UNITA-UNIVERSITAS MONTIUM and partners, in any field from their second year, where PhD Candidates should present their research in an effective way to a non-specialized audience.

Your challenge: present your research work in 3 minutes in an easy-to-understand way to a non-specialist audience in ENGLISH.

The competition will be organized in two steps:

First step: on-line training and local competition in each of the 9 participating universities. Selection of 2 PhD candidates by university for the final competition. 

You will beneficiate from an online training of 5 hours from March 14 to April 04 in groups of about 12 PhD candidates from different European universities of the UNITA alliance.

The local competition will be held in April (date to be announced between 7th – 17th of April 2025).

(Admission to the first step through application, see below. Only 10 spots available).

Second step:  final competition at the Universidad Pública de Navarra (UPNA - Spain) on May 30 2025, within a Unita event, that will gather many UNITA partners from all over the Alliance.

TURIN HUMANITIES PROGRAMME CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - 2025-2027 RESEARCH CYCLE

 

FI(na)LMENTE, a project aimed at promoting the use of videos as a means of communication for scientific, research is back. The project represents an unconventional training opportunity that combines creative and technical skills, necessary for effective scientific dissemination. This year in 2.0 mode.

The II Edition of the workshop Communicating science. Pills of storytelling & filmmaking will be addressed to 12 PhD Candidates from the Doctoral School and 12 students from the School of Advanced Studies 'Ferdinando Rossi' (SSST) of UniTo. Applications from all disciplines are admitted, which will be selected on the basis of a competitive call based, for Ph.D. Candidates, on research proposals, and for SSST students on a brief motivation letter detailing the interest towards dissemination activities.

The aim is to set up 4 heterogeneous groups, to which practical elements for the use of the video medium in scientific communication are provided. PhD Candidates and SSST students will work together to produce 4 short videos (one per group) starting from the scientific research topics proposed by the Ph.D. students in their applications.

Applications (HERE) are open from now until December 15, 2024, 24:00.

The selected Ph.D Candidates and SSST students will attend a kick-off event (at the beginning of February 2025) and five days of professional training sessions (Feb-May 2025), led by experienced professionals in the fields of communication and filmmaking.

The 4 short videos (5 min each) created will be shown and discussed in a number of secondary schools involved and presented in a dedicated session of the CinemAmbiente Festival, which will be held in Torino in June 2025.

The workshop is organized in the framework of FI(na)LMENTE 2.0, a project born from an idea of the Ph.D. program in Neuroscience of the University of Turin and the InTo Brain Association, in collaboration with the Doctoral School of the University of Turin and the School for Advanced Studies of the University of Turin ‘Ferdinando Rossi’ (SSST), together with CinemAmbiente Festival, promoting the use of videos as a means to communicate scientific research.

Nel form è necessario caricare l’allegato C debitamente compilato e sottoscritto dal/dala richiedente e controfirmato dal/dalla Supervisor e dal Coordinatore o Coordinatrice del corso di dottorato.

La mancata compilazione dell’Allegato C e/o il mancato svolgimento di un periodo di ricerca all’estero o lo svolgimento di un periodo inferiore ai 90 giorni nell’anno 2023, comporterà il recupero dell’intero importo attribuito.

EN_FLAG.PNG As proof that the research and/or training period has been carried out abroad, the recipients of the mobility grant must send to the PhD Area by 31 January 2024, by using the closing form,  the declaration of completion of the minimum period of  90 days of mobility abroad (Annex C) duly filled in and signed by the applicant and countersigned by the Supervisor and the Coordinator.

Failure to fill in the Annex C and/or failure to carry out a research period abroad or carrying out a period of less than 90 days in the year 2023 will result in the recovery of the entire amount.

Con il programma PhD Around the World, UniTo promuove la mobilità per periodi di ricerca all’estero di dottorande/i con uno stanziamento di 250 mila euro.

L’assegnazione dei fondi avverrà attraverso la partecipazione a un bando e fino all’esaurimento del budget stanziato.

Possono partecipare al bando dottorande/i che svolgeranno un periodo di mobilità all’estero nel 2023 di almeno 90 giorni, con i seguenti requisiti:

  • essere regolarmente iscritte/i a Corsi di Dottorato con sede amministrativa presso l’Università di Torino
  • avere lo status di dottoranda/o per tutta la durata della mobilità
  • essere in regola con il versamento dei contributi relativi all’iscrizione al Dottorato

Si prega di verificare le incompatibilità previste dal bando all'art. 3.

Deadline per presentare la domanda: 31 gennaio 2023.

PhD Around the World è un programma che ha l’obiettivo di promuovere la mobilità internazionale di dottorandi e dottorande di UniTo e prevede numerose iniziative, comprese attività di formazione che verranno avviate nel corso del 2023.

EN_FLAG.PNG Call for the award of mobility grants to Ph.D. candidates for spending research stays abroad - Year 2023 - funded by UniTO three-years Planning 2021-2023 approved by resolution 7/2021/11/1 by the Board of Directors

UniTo promotes international research mobility for PhD Candidates with individual grants through the PhD Around the World program.

The total budget allocated is 250 thousand Euros.

To access the grant, PhD Candidates must participate to the selection; grants will be awarded until the end of resources.

PhD Candidates are required to spend an international mobility period of at least 90 days in 2023.

All PhD Candidates meeting the following requirements may apply:

  • to be properly enrolled in a Ph.D. Program whose administrative seat is at the University of Torino;
  • to keep their status as a Ph.D. candidate throughout the duration of the mobility. 
  • to be in compliance with the Ph.D. fee payment;

Applicants are required to check incompatibilities as per art. 3 of the Call.

To participate to the Call,  you must send your application by the 31st January 2023.

PhD Around the World is a project that aims to promote UniTo PhD Candidates international mobility. Further activities will be part of the program such as training moments that will take place during 2023.

My three-minute PhD thesis competition 2024 - Second edition

Two UNITO PhD Candidates won the My 3 Minutes PhD Thesis competition!

Rebecca Sabatini, PhD Candidate in Religious Studies presented her research project "Exposing humans: Mummies, rituals and heritage-making"; Irene Viola, PhD Candidate in Veterinary Sciences for Animal Health and Food Safety presented her research project "Establishment of an in vitro model to study autophagy during early placenta development in sheep". After the local selection, they participated in the final of the international competition and won representing UniTO among other 18 PhD Candidates of the UNITA Alliance. Congratulation!

The competition will be organized in two steps:

First step: on-line training and local competition in each of the 9 participating universities. Selection of 2 (or 3 for UNIZAR and UNITO) PhD candidates by university for the final competition. The local competition will be held at the beginning of May (date to be selected between 1st-17th May).

You will beneficiate from an online training of 5 hours in April (1-26 April) in groups of about 10 PhD candidates from different European universities of the UNITA alliance.

Second step:  face-to-face training and final competition at the University of Pau & Pays de l’Adour (South-West of France) from 1 to 5 July 2024, within a Unita event, that will gather many UNITA partners from all over the Alliance.

Selected PhD Candidets will benefit from an additional face-to-face training before the final. This additional training emphasizes oral expression in stressful situations, covering voice control, gestures and behaviour mastery, as well as managing contact with the jury and the audience.

Call Re-UNITA Open Innovation Prize 2024

The project Research for UNITA (Re-Unita) presents the Re-UNITA Open Innovation Prize, to boost open innovation in the UNITA community and to contribute to the co-creation of Innovation between the academic world and industry.

The Innovation Prize 2024 competition rewards the three (3) best Ideas from all kind of themes, on an open-ended basis, presented by young university students, professors, researchers, startups, or spinoffs.

All applicants should present projects that:

  • are within the Knowledge Intensive Services

  • answer to the social and societal challenges.

Who can apply

  • The research teams hailing from the six Re-UNITA partners (students, professors, researchers enrolled for the 2023-2024 academic year), the spin-off and start-up companies that belong to, or are issued from, their incubators, are eligible to apply.

  • Promoters of original ideas, preferably associated with the ability to economically exploit existing scientific and technological knowledge in society and/or research and development processes for new or significantly improved products and processes, with those processes coming from the six Re-UNITA partners.

Applications must be submitted through the application form.

RE-UNITA’s SEEDING PROOF OF CONCEPT PROGRAM

Re-UNITA’s Seeding Proof of Concept program will provide seeding funding for a small proof of concept project among those presented by research teams involving at least two Re-UNITA partners.

The objective of this call is to empower R&I based entrepreneurship in the UNITA community and to contribute to the cooperation between members of the different universities of Re-UNITA project.

Selected projects will be provided a grant of 3,500 €.

My 3 min PhD thesis logo“My three-minute PhD thesis” is a research communication competition open to all PhD Candidates of the nine participating universities of UNITA-UNIVERSITAS MONTIUM and partners, in any field from their second year, where PhD Candidates should present their research in an effective way to a non-specialized audience.

Your challenge: present your research work in 3 minutes in an easy-to-understand way to a non-specialist audience in ENGLISH.

To help you, you will beneficiate from an online training of 7 hours between April and June 2023 in groups of about 10 PhD Candidates from different European universities of the UNITA alliance.

The competition will be organized in two steps:

  • First step: local competition in each of the 9 participating universities. Selection of 2 PhD candidates by university for the final competition (before mid-July);
  • Second step: final face-to-face competition in Pau (University of Pau & Pays de l’Adour, South-West of France) on 22nd of September, within a Geminae event, that will gather many UNITA partners from all over the world.
