International Network

UniTO and the Doctoral School aim at excellence in research and training by promoting the internationalisation of their students, PhD programmes and research activity through mobility plans, scientific cooperation networks, participation to competitive bidding such as Horizon Europe.

UniTo is active at international level through involvement of its researchers in collaborative projects, establishment of joint educational courses, such as double degree programmes and  international PhD programmes, through the subscription of more  than 500 formal cooperation agreements with institutions  around the world.

The University of Torino is Coordinator of the UNITA - Universitas Montium project, one of the 50 European Alliances funded by the European Commission within the framework of the Erasmus+ European Universities initiative. The University of Turin coordinates this ambitious project, which involves form November 2023, 12 European Universities in 7 countries and aims to have a transformative impact on teaching and research, as well as on the relationships between the university and the territory, with the purpose of proposing excellent, student-centered education from a European and transnational perspective.

The University manages roughly 500 projects per year, both at the national and international level. The long record of participation of UniTo in the EU strategic research agenda results from 115 FP7 and 186 H2020 funded research projects. Under H2020 only, UniTo coordinated 41 projects, 11 of which ERC grants, taking part in 42 Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions (of which, 20 funded through the H2020-ETN, EJD and EID projects) and 9 Research Infrastructures grants overall.

It has been the Coordinator of “2020 researchers: Train2Move”, a fellowship programme funded under FP7-COFUND-2013, granting 28 post doc fellowships, and of the H2020-MSCA-COFUND-2016 “Tech4Culture”, granting 18 PhD fellowships and promoting international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral PhD Programs, in line with the European Principles for Innovative Doctoral Training.

In Horizon Europe 82 projects have been funded so far, of which 2 ERC grants, 24 Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions, and 5 under the Research Infrastructures program. At the present time UniTO is involved in 10 MSCA Doctoral Networks projects.
