Guide to UniTo PhD

This guide is intended to give you an overview of the main practical and organizationl aspects concerning the Ph.D. path at UniTo. Through this Guide, you can identify the academic and administrative contact points, Ph.D. Candidates' opportunities and duties.

Ph.D. Candidates are expected to be committed full-time to complete individual activities, such as research, dissemination, and common training activities. More information is available on the “Research Training” and “Complementary Training” webpages.

Training activities are planned and organized by the Doctoral Board of each Ph.D. Program.
Ph.D. Candidates must plan their individual activities with their Supervisors.

The Doctoral Board and Supervisors monitor the progress that each Ph.D. Candidate makes in carrying out his/her research project and verify fulfilments regarding training activities.

Any activity simultaneous to Ph.D. must be approved or assessed beforehand by the Doctoral Board. For further details, please see the page Simultaneous activities.

The Doctoral Board set requirements and standards that each Ph.D. Candidate must meet in order to enrol in years following the first and be admitted to the final examination. Furthermore, the Doctoral Board, along with supervisors, monitors the progress that each Ph.D. candidate makes in carrying out his/her research project and verify fulfilments regarding training activities.

Each year an annual progress report on Ph.D. research activity must be submitted to the Doctoral Board for the evaluation of results.

To conclude, the Doctoral Board may authorize any simultaneous activities carried out by PhD candidates and any Program suspensions or extensions

Each Ph.D. Program appoints a Coordinator, who represents the Program and coordinates all teaching and scientific activities.

In addition, a Supervisor and one or more co-supervisors (co-supevisors may be even external to the University of Turin) are appointed by the Doctoral Board for each Ph.D. Candidate at the beginning of his/her Program.
Each Supervisor and Co-supervisor are appointed according to the Ph.D. Candidate’s research project and provide advice and guidance also for the writing and submission of her/his final dissertation.
Ph.D. candiates must constantly  inform and consult supervisors on their training, research, and dissemination activities.

The doctoral scholarship is monthly paid to the recipients after the beginning of their Program and covers the entire duration of the Ph.D. attendance.

A scholraship may be revoked if the Doctoral Board verifies a serious failure to fulfil attendance duties and doctoral activities.

Scholarships are paid on 25th of each months. To know details about their monthly scholarship payment, Ph.D. Candidates may display thier payslip logging into My UniTo using SCU credentials and clicking on the item "Cedolini stipendi - CU online".

Doctoral scholarships are subject to INPS social contribution. As a consequence, Ph.D. Candidates who are recipients of a scholarship must register with INPS under the section "Gestione separata" after the start of the Program.

You can find further information about UniTo doctoral scholarship and other financial benefits at the page Financial Aid and in the FAQs, under the item "Financial matters".
