Relevant information on the program

Organization of different activities and implementation of different projects aimed at helping our PhD students to:
• prepare their postdoctoral career path (with a particular focus on careers beyond Academia),
• strengthen their soft skills,
• become aware of their full potential in terms of transferable skills,
• learn how to identify their transferable skills,
• explore and understand the job market,
• understand the recruitment process,
• overcome a job interview,
• build and expand their professional network

Types of activities and projects
• Soft skills training workshops and webinars run by experienced trainers (elevator pitch, scientific writing, fundraising, intellectual property, project managment, career coaching, social media strategy and personal branding);
• round table and panel discussions with HR professionals, head hunters, European recruiters, Alumni PhD with original and interesting jobs;
• business dinner with recruiters from different companies and startups;
• mock interviews with real HR professionals,
• Doc Talk with our Alumni,
• Participation to Career Fairs only for PhDs,
• "Career Tracking Project" to better understand the employability of our PhD Graduates and to build a Community of Alumni. Our PhD Alumni Network Project is a work in progress.

Initiatiaves promoted through the years by our Doctoral Schools which were reorganized in one big doctoral School in 2019:
• 2015, 2016, 2017: annual Career Day only for PhDs to valorize skills they acquire during doctoral training (programs and details are available if of interest);

  • 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022: cross-border workshop to help our PhDs prepare their postdoc in non-academic contexts. It was organized in cooperation with the Université of Lyon, Swiss Association of Western Universities, and since 2021 with the participation of IIT Genova and the University of Brescia,
    • 2018, 2019, 2020: annual half day session focusing on the employablity of PhD Graduates in non-academic contexts. Recruiters and testimonials (Alumni) were invited to our round table discussion;
    • 2021: organization of 8 webinars “Career Paths for PhDs” with a focus on interesting and original professional profiles (s. the attached list);
  • 2021, 2022 and 2023: French-Italian Day for Early Career Researchers. Half-day session organized together with ABG Paris (Association B. Gregory). Our event consists of a plenary session dealing with a specific topic (networking, recruitment process etc.) and two round tables where company representatives, startuppers and PhD holders with interesting professional profiles are invited.
    • 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023: participation to Euraxess program
    • 2022: PhD Alumni Network, work in progress. Implementation of our Community of Alumni -PhD Graduates-. We are used to invite to our round tables testimonials of successul career transition stories. Our final goal is a platform, designed to help build online Alumni communities and engage PhD students. The tool will facilitate networking, mentoring etc.
  • 2019-2023: organization together with the expert team working for Piedmont Employment Agency APL onsite and online session for PhDs. The following topics were treated: most valuable career skills, the most in-demand skills for today's job market, what employers want.

• 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022: Almalaurea, Dottorati,  the Italian interuniversity consortium surveying the Profile and the Employment status of our PhD Graduates annually after 1, 3 and 5 years.

• 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2022. Career guidance and Mentoring. Individual career guidance to PhDs who have to prepare their next professional move and are also in need of a professional network. 

 

  • Italian-French-Swiss cross-border workshop, 25-27 June with the financial help of Auvergne-R-Alpes Region and in partnership with the Université de Lyon, the Swiss Association of Western Universities, IIT and the University of Brescia. See the program and the call.
  • The Italian-French day for early career researchers, October 10, 2024. University of Torino. The event is organized onsite by the Doctoral School of the University of Torino together with ABG Paris and it is under the scientific label of the French-Italian University. This event is an opportunity for students and researchers from both countries to get an insight on the job market and the skills necessary for a career transition and to network with recruiters and PhDs working in companies or who have launched an entrepreneurial activity. New York Career Day 2024: Opportunities for Italian Researchers
January 30th, from 3:00-5:30pm CET, this Zoom event will guide Italian researchers in planning their scientific career, finding research opportunities in New York, identifying funding resources, and receiving mentorship when applying for research positions. The event targets scientists looking for graduate or postdoctoral research appointments in New York. Participants will learn about exciting research opportunities in New York and the resources that are available to help secure these positions. They will meet institutional administrators and researchers who can provide advice and assist with the application process. Several partner institutions will also present their fellowship and grant opportunities.

  • Italian-French-swiss cross-border doctoral workshop. Prepare your professional career outside Academia. Université de Lyon. June 25, 26 and 27  2025. Call for applications (s. attached file) The initiative in collaboration with the Université de Lyon, the Swiss CUSO, IIT and the University of Brescia is financed by Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and the partner universities. Selected PhDs will be able to attend thematic workshops with experienced trainers, meet recruiters, HR professionals, Alumni working in companies etc.

Finishing your PhD. For doctoral students approaching the end of their doctoral studies.

Maintaining an engaged Alumni Community can be challenging. Our purpose is to establish a strong PhD student-institution relationship that continues beyond graduation.
